This project involves restoring a 1930s British four-seater Percival Vega Gull brought back to the UK from Australia in 2012. The ‘K series’ Vega Gull which is the developed version of the ‘D series’ Gull is a single engine, fast flying wooden aircraft with low folding wings.
The Vega Gull was used by the British Commonwealth aviators during the 1930s, where it broke records and won races. After the outbreak of the war, the Percival Vega Gull was requisitioned for military use.
Despite the drawbacks of its wooden airframe in terms of weather resistance, the Vega Gull is still compared very favourably and often surpasses modern designs.
